A-Z Challenge: P is for Patisserie

We have bakeries in America, where we go to buy our staple bread as well as sweet indulgences.

In France the two are separate. You would visit the boulangerie for bread (typically every day or every other day) and the patisserie for pastries (probably less frequently... although if I didn't care about my waistline, I could easily visit on a daily basis).

This is one of the few shops in Paris where a lack of the native language does not put you at a disadvantage. Your eyes tell you all you need to know before making a purchase - and I'm not sure you could make a poor decision.

The choices are nearly limitless:

Rich and creamy chocolates in every
conceivable size, shape and flavor
Flaky pastries, Fruit tartes, and
decadent cakes

And of course... the light, colorful
quintessential French Macaroon

  2. I remember staring into the windows of shops like this when we visited France - absolutely amazed at the variety and quantity available - and the colours were so bright and enticing! Leanne @ cresting the hill

    1. Yes, my photo really did not do the pastries justice (not quite sure why there is so much pink...) But the variety of colors, textures, sizes.... truly amazing.

    1. My daughter loves macaroons. Personally, I could take them or leave them but... I do think they are beautiful, especially when displayed as a rainbow of color.

  5. Oh... I love those Patisseries. They are quite unique there in France. Well, I think I saw something similar in Italy once, but in other countries it's different.
    There used to be a macroon-shop in my home town (Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany) over winter. In Summer-time, spring and fall it's an ice-cream-shop and over winter time it was a macaroon-shop in winter 2014/15. Last winter there was a sign and I waited. December and Januar passed and I waited. Still no Macaroons in sight in February and in March the Ice-cream shop had opened again. I am quite sad about this because they were great, this Macaroons of winter 2014/15 ...

  6. We have that distinction in Italy too.
    And ah! Macarons! They have arrived here recently too... and they are quite expencive too... But, oh my goodness, they are so good!
